Peñíscola, a tourist and fishing village, is located 73 kilometres to the north of Castellon, in the Valencian Community.

The impressive old quarter of this walled town is crowned by the mediaeval castle built in the 13th century on a rock, 64 metres above sea level. In the 15th century it was the residence of Pope Benedictine XIII, who reconverted the castle into a pontifical library an palace. Even today the traces of its presence are preserved in the town.

Long fine sandy beaches, beautiful coves at the foot of steep cliffs, spread out on both sides of the citadel.
